The hardest part of texting your wedding guests is rarely the sending, it is staring at an empty message box wondering how formal to be. The good news: the best wedding texts are short, warm, and specific. Guests are reading on a phone between other things, so every message should answer one question and take one action. Below are templates for every moment of the wedding arc, from save the date to thank you. Swap in your names, dates, and links, and trim anything that does not apply.
Save the date texts
Send these six to eight months out, earlier for destination weddings.
- "We're getting married! Priya & Raj, February 14th in Houston. Save the date, formal invite to follow. We can't wait to celebrate with you."
- "Big news: we set a date! June 20th, Lake Como. Flights and hotel details coming soon, but block the weekend now. Love, Emma & Raj"
- "You've been warned: we're getting married on October 3rd and you're on the list. Details soon!"
Invitation texts with an RSVP link
Send eight to ten weeks before the wedding. Lead with names, give the essentials, end with the link.
- "Priya and Raj are getting married! We would love you at our wedding on February 14th in Houston. Tap here for details and to RSVP: [link]. With love, P & R"
- "Hi [name], our wedding weekend is almost here. You're invited to the welcome dinner Friday and the ceremony Saturday. RSVP for both here: [link]"
- For a multi-event wedding, name the event: "You're invited to our Sangeet on the 12th! Dinner and dancing from 7pm. Let us know you're coming: [link]"
RSVP reminder texts
Send only to guests who have not replied, two to three weeks before you need counts. Kind and brief beats clever.
- "Hi [name], just a gentle nudge: we'd love to know if you can make it on the 14th. RSVP takes 30 seconds: [link]"
- "Quick reminder to RSVP for the wedding by Friday so we can give the caterer real numbers. Tap here: [link]. Thank you!"
- Last call: "Closing RSVPs tomorrow! If you haven't replied yet, here's the link: [link]. Hope to see you there."
Travel, hotel, and shuttle texts
Send these to travelers and hotel-block guests a week or two out, then again the day before anything with a departure time.
- "Hotel info for the wedding: we have a block at [hotel] under 'Sharma wedding' until May 1st. Book here: [link]"
- "Shuttle to the ceremony leaves the hotel lobby at 3:15pm sharp on Saturday. It will not wait for stragglers, don't be a straggler."
- "Landing early? The welcome dinner starts at 7 on Friday at [venue], casual dress. Come straight from the airport if you need to, we'll feed you."
Day-of and last-minute change texts
This is where texting earns its keep. Keep changes to one fact per message so nothing gets missed.
- "Small change: the ceremony now starts at 5pm, not 5:30. Everything else stays the same. See you soon!"
- "Weather update: the ceremony is moving indoors to the ballroom. Same venue, same time, more air conditioning."
- "Good morning! Baraat gathers outside the main entrance at 10:30am. Bring your dancing shoes and your sunglasses."
- "Brunch is on! 10am at [restaurant], come as you are. One last chance to hug everyone before flights."
Thank you texts
A personal thank you text within a week keeps the glow going while formal cards are still at the printer.
- "Thank you for celebrating with us this weekend. Seeing you on the dance floor made our night. We love you!"
- "We're still smiling. Thank you for traveling all that way to be with us, it meant everything. Photos coming soon!"
Sending these without the group chat
Templates only work if the right version reaches the right guests: the shuttle text to hotel guests, the reminder to non-responders only, the Sangeet timing to the Sangeet list. That targeting is what a wedding texting tool does for you. Cordially Wed sends personalized SMS and WhatsApp messages from a dedicated wedding number, fills in each guest's name and RSVP link automatically, and collects replies in one inbox. Your guest list, RSVP tracking, and wedding website are free, and unlimited guest texting is a one-time payment from $59, sized to how many unique guest phone numbers you are texting. You can send yourself a free test message first at cordiallywed.com/invite, paste in a template above, and see exactly what your guests will get.
