Wedding Household RSVPs: One Contact, Every Person, Every Event

A household RSVP should save your family from filling in the same form several times without treating everyone as one attendance answer. In Cordially Wed, you can keep one primary guest contact, add named household members, and collect a separate yes or no from each person for each invited event. The household stays together for contact purposes; the headcount still reflects individual people.

There is one setup rule to understand first: members added under a primary guest share that guest's invited events. They can accept or decline those events independently. If two people need different invitations, give them separate guest records and assign their event audiences separately. That distinction between an invitation and an RSVP prevents a lot of wedding-week confusion.

What is the difference between a household, a guest, and an RSVP?

Think of three different questions. Who should receive the message? Who is actually coming? Which gathering are they coming to?

A family of four can have one contact number, four people on the list, and twelve attendance answers across three events. One person can submit the household's answers, but those answers do not have to match. Counting contact numbers as guests would undercount the room; counting one household yes as four yeses for every event could overcount it.

How do you set up a household in Cordially Wed?

Start with the person who should receive the household's messages. In Guests, open their guest profile and find Household members. Enter the first and last name of another person, optionally choose a relationship and add dietary notes, then select Add to household. Repeat for the people sharing that invitation.

You can add up to eight members besides the primary guest: nine named people in total. Relationship choices include Spouse, Partner, Child, Parent, Sibling, Plus-One, Family, and Friend, and the relationship is optional. A household does not have to be two adults and their children. An adult sibling or grandparent can be represented by their actual relationship.

The added members do not need separate phone numbers. Messaging stays with the primary contact, while members have their own RSVP answers and dietary notes. If someone needs their own communication or a different event invitation, use a separate full guest record instead of adding them under the primary guest.

How do household invitations work across several wedding events?

Create the events that need separate attendance counts. Then assign the appropriate primary guest records through the event's guests, guest lists, or tags. Their added household members receive the same set of event invitations. In Cordially Wed, an event with no targeted audience is open to all guests; set a specific audience for an invitation-only dinner.

For example, invite the Patel household to the welcome dinner, ceremony, and reception. Their RSVP form can collect an answer from each named person for each of those events. The entire household does not have to attend the entire weekend. Our per-event wedding RSVP guide explains how to turn these answers into separate event counts.

Example: one family, three different attendance patterns

Here is an illustrative household, with all three people invited to all three events. Priya is the primary contact; Arun and Meera are added household members.

The correct totals are one at the welcome dinner, three at the ceremony, and two at the reception. You still have one household contact. A single family-level yes cannot produce those counts. Meera's dietary note also belongs to Meera, so you can check it against the events she is attending instead of applying it to the whole family.

Before sending invitations, try a representative household in your RSVP preview. Confirm the names and events, then check that changing one person's answer does not mean changing everyone else's.

What if children are not invited to the adults-only dinner?

Being uninvited is different from declining. Do not invite a child to an adults-only dinner and rely on the family to select no. Because added household members share their primary guest's invitations in Cordially Wed, use separate guest records when their allowed events differ, then target the dinner to the invited records only.

The same rule applies to an adult sibling who is reception-only while their parents attend the whole weekend. Keep the invitation boundary correct first. A shared surname, address, or relationship is not a reason to show someone an event they were not invited to. Preview the relevant invitation before sharing it.

How do you keep household replies and guest messages together?

Cordially Wed combines guest records with SMS and WhatsApp in one wedding inbox. You can contact the household's primary guest, send the RSVP link, and handle their logistics questions alongside the guest context. Named household members still count as people even when they do not have their own texting number.

For international weddings, confirm which number the primary contact uses on WhatsApp before travel. An active WhatsApp account can keep using its registered number over travel data or Wi-Fi after a SIM change. That gives you another contact option when the home SMS line is unavailable, provided the account remains connected. See SMS and WhatsApp in one wedding inbox.

A chat reply such as 'the three of us are coming' needs clarification if the three people are attending different events. Ask the guest to complete the RSVP form, or record the confirmed answers accurately. An ordinary inbox reply does not automatically supply every person's event RSVP.

Do other wedding websites support household RSVPs?

Yes. Household or party responses and event-specific invitations are available in other wedding tools. Compare the setup and the communication workflow, rather than assuming the feature name tells you everything.

Our Zola household RSVP comparison covers its family entry model. Our Joy household RSVP comparison explains parties, individual attendance, and questions answered once per group. Both comparisons use the providers' public documentation.

Cordially Wed is worth considering when you want named household members, per-person and per-event answers, and SMS plus WhatsApp communication in the same workspace. Guest list management and RSVPs are free; guest texting is paid. Start with one household and two events so you can judge the workflow against your own wedding.

Frequently asked questions

Can one person RSVP for the whole family?

Yes. In Cordially Wed, the household RSVP can collect answers for the primary guest and their added members. Each person can give a different answer for each invited event.

Can members of one household attend different wedding events?

Yes, their attendance answers can differ. Added household members in Cordially Wed share the primary guest's invitations, but each person accepts or declines separately. Use separate guest records when the invitations themselves need to differ.

Does every child need a phone number for a wedding RSVP?

No. A child can be a named household member under a primary guest without a separate phone number. Their attendance and dietary information can still be recorded separately.

How many people can be in a Cordially Wed household?

A primary guest can have up to eight added household members, for nine named people in total. A member can be an adult or a child; the relationship is optional.

Is a household RSVP the same as a plus-one allowance?

No. A named household member is a specific person whose attendance you can track. A plus-one allowance is permission to bring another person. Confirm the name before treating that person as an individual guest in your counts.

Is household RSVP management free in Cordially Wed?

Yes. Guest list management and RSVPs are free. Paid guest texting is priced by unique phone numbers, so the number of people attending and the number of numbers you message can differ.
